Come learn the fascinating history of indigo, how to make a vat for dyeing and create your own Japanese Shibori textiles!
In this class participants will get the chance to experience the creation of an entire Shibori pattern, from dye to design. Fabric will be provided, but feel free to bring along some light-colored natural fabrics to experiment with (cotton, linen, wool, etc.)!
Shibori is a traditional Japanese indigo dyeing technique, in which sections of fabric are tied, folded, or sewn before the dyeing process to create patterns in the finished textile.
This class will be taught be Nelise Nasheida. Nelise is a textile designer, artist, living and creating in Brooklyn, NY.
What to Bring: Your imagination and light-colored natural fabrics to experiment with (cotton, linen, wool, etc.)!
What to Expect: Creative time in a natural park setting, open to all ages.
