Upcoming Events
Volunteers are at the heart of WNYC Transmitter Park. Friends of WNYC Transmitter Park offers opportunities for neighbors to give back through gardening, environmental clean-ups, event support, and other hands-on projects that keep the park vibrant and welcoming.
We also host volunteer days for corporate groups, providing a chance to strengthen teamwork and community ties while making a visible difference in the park.
To learn how you or your company can get involved, email us at wnyctransmitterpark@gmail.com.
Intro to Shibori Indigo Textile Dyeing with Nelise Nasheida
Come learn the fascinating history of indigo, how to make a vat for dyeing and create your own Japanese Shibori textiles!
In this class participants will get the chance to experience the creation of an entire Shibori pattern, from dye to design. Fabric will be provided, but feel free to bring along some light-colored natural fabrics to experiment with (cotton, linen, wool, etc.)!
Shibori is a traditional Japanese indigo dyeing technique, in which sections of fabric are tied, folded, or sewn before the dyeing process to create patterns in the finished textile.
This class will be taught be Nelise Nasheida. Nelise is a textile designer, artist, living and creating in Brooklyn, NY.
Born in Saint George’s, Grenada, and raised in Flatbush, her work seeks to bring attention to the beauty and complexity of the natural world through the juxtaposition of patterns in fabric, dyes and silkscreen.
Using a variety of natural fibers, generally silk, linen and cotton, she creates intricate prints that conjure traditional motifs and evoke the vibrancy of nature.
Her pieces are experimental in nature and embrace roots, petals, leaves and even some insects as symbols of the delicate yet powerful interconnectivity found in the environment.
Through her work, Nelise aims to challenge traditional art historical narrative and provoke questions concerning the relationship between people and nature.
Her vibrant work speaks to the importance of utilizing colors and textures to communicate stories that are too often untold.
